How in the hell did I miss this?

That supposed attack on the McCain volunteer by a ‘crazed black man, Obama supporter’ was entirely made up?  She’s arrested for it?

Fox News Exec. Vice President John Moody said, when the attack first broke, “If the incident turns out to be a hoax, Senator McCain’s quest for the presidency is over, forever linked to race-baiting.”  Guess what, the attack IS a hoax.

Talking Point Memo has a scathing pair of articles about it:

Even better?  This just in, she got kicked off the Ron Paul campaign for dirty tactics and it appears, pulled the ‘attacked for being a supporter’ card before.

See BoingBoing – “Ashley Todd pulled hoax hijinks in Ron Paul campaign, too” and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette – “McCain volunteer admits ot hoax”.

In March, Ms. Todd was asked to leave a grass-roots group of Ron Paul supporters in Brazos County, Texas, group leader Dustan Costine said. He said Ms. Todd posed as a supporter of former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee and called the local Republican committee seeking information about its campaign strategies.

“She would call the opposing campaign and pretend she was on their campaign to get information,” Mr. Costine said last night. “We had to remove her because of the tactics she displayed. After that we had nothing to do with her.”

About a month earlier, he said, Ms. Todd sent an e-mail to the Ron Paul group saying her tires were slashed and that campaign paraphernalia had been stolen from her car because she supported Mr. Paul.

“She’s the type of person who wants to be recognized,” Mr. Costine said.

Gun (pre)shopping day 1.

Filed under: gunnie goodness — Elizabeth @ 21:16

Went out gun shopping today for round 1 of find-what-fits-my-hand-and-feels-good, this afternoon.  (first try at typing this sentance, I typed “Went out fun shopping…”)  We hit up Manchester Firing Line and State Line Gun Shop.  There were a few that felt right, and I’d like to try shooting, and many many others that just plain didn’t fit.  Top contenders right now in terms of what felt right are mostly Sig Sauers (P226, P229, P239, P220), with a Baretta (92FS) and a S&W (908.5) as close seconds.  There was also a CZ and a Tarus I liked, but seeing as they’re not on the list, they’re not going to happen in MA.

Also had a couple revolvers that fit very well, too.  Best fit hands down was from a little S&W model 60.  It seems their revolver J-frame fits well.  Also really liked the Ruger Security Six, which is not surprising because I liked JayG’s Security Six a whole lot.

At this point it looks like we’ll probably end up getting a Sig and a revolver for now, and putting off the 1911 for Bill until we’ve escaped from this crazy state and he can actually get his hands on a colt 1911 for a reasonable amount of money instade of the insane MA prices.

I just put in my application

I just put in my application for my LTC class A in Lowell this morning.  I’m excited!  The detective who did the processing is very nice.  Lowell is a PITA, though.  They flat out refuse to issue unrestricted LTC class A licenses.  I’ll have to settle for the sporting restriction, at least for now.

Frankly, I’m just happy to be getting licensed so we can begin hunting for what kind of handgun I’d like to own, and get out to the range for fun.
